The Gardening & Beautification Department of DMC is dedicated to creating and maintaining green, vibrant and well-designed public spaces across the city of Dibrugarh. Our aim is to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal, preserve its natural character and provide residents with pleasant, accessible outdoor environments.
Key Functions
Planning, planting and upkeep of public gardens, parks, tree-lined avenues, flower beds, shrubs and other landscaping elements in municipal premises, streets and open spaces.
Beautification of civic areas through landscaping works, planting of seasonal flowers, decorative lighting, hard-scape elements (benches, pathways), and routine maintenance of green assets.
Development and maintenance of “green corridors”, urban-forest patches or tree-cover initiatives to conserve the city’s natural heritage and improve air-quality and ambient comfort. (Citizens are advocating for such an urban-forest initiative in Dibrugarh).
Collaboration with other departments in improvement works: for example integrating beautification with road upgrades, drain works, public amenities and recreational spaces.
Public-engagement and awareness activities: involving citizens, schools, neighbourhood associations in tree-planting drives, garden adoption schemes and upkeep of local green areas.
Vision
We envision a Dibrugarh which is not only efficient and well-governed, but also lush, beautiful and livable—where public spaces reflect civic pride, and greenery and design help make the city inviting, healthy and sustainable.
Our Commitment
To use quality horticulture and landscaping practices: selecting appropriate plant species, ensuring proper irrigation, soil preparation and regular maintenance so that green spaces thrive.
To ensure accessibility and continuity: public gardens and landscaped areas will be safe, open, well-maintained, and suitable for families, elderly persons and the general public.
To adopt eco-friendly design: favouring native tree species, low-maintenance shrubs, sustainable water-management in plantings, and linking beautification with environmental benefits (shade, air quality, biodiversity).
To maintain transparency and responsiveness: scheduling of planting/maintenance works will be communicated, and citizens may report neglected green areas or propose local beautification initiatives.
