Electrical Department

The Electrical Department of DMC is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and maintaining the public electrical infrastructure within the city of Dibrugarh. Our mission is to ensure dependable, safe and energy-efficient lighting and power systems in public spaces and municipal facilities, thereby contributing to a well-lit, secure and vibrant urban environment.

Key Functions

  • Installation, upkeep and replacement of street-lighting, public area lighting, traffic-signal illumination and lighting in municipal buildings and facilities.

  • Coordination with the utility provider (for example Assam Power Distribution Company Limited) on supply, metering, fault-reporting and outage management for the municipal zone.

  • Regular inspection of public electrical assets (light poles, wiring, luminaries) and prompt repair of issues such as broken lamps, faulty wiring, dim lighting or non-functioning fixtures.

  • Energy-efficiency initiatives: adopting LED lighting, automating switching schedules, and reviewing consumption trends to reduce municipal energy costs and carbon footprint.

  • Liaison with other departments (roads, sanitation, parks, traffic) to align electrical works with urban maintenance, new infrastructure works or redevelopment projects.

Our Vision

To create a cityscape of Dibrugarh that is well-illuminated, safe, accessible and responsive: where public lighting supports commerce, mobility, comfort and night-time activity, and where our electrical infrastructure reflects reliability, modernity and civic pride.

Our Commitment

  • To respond swiftly to citizen requests and complaints such as non-working street-lights or power faults in municipal areas, ensuring minimal downtime.

  • To adopt best practices and modern lighting technologies that enhance both performance and cost-effectiveness, while promoting sustainable urban lighting.

  • To plan proactively for infrastructure growth: as the city expands or new public facilities come up, ensuring electrical infrastructure is designed for current as well as future demand.

  • To maintain transparent service-delivery: give clear contact channels, publish maintenance schedules wherever applicable and keep the public informed about planned power-shutdowns or upgrades.
