Garage & Transportation Department

The Garage & Transportation Department of DMC is responsible for managing the municipal fleet of vehicles and coordinating transportation services required for civic functions. The department ensures that all municipal vehicles are properly maintained, available for public-service needs and deployed efficiently to support the city’s operations.

Key Functions

  • Maintenance, repair and servicing of the municipal fleet – including utility trucks, waste-collection vehicles, transport vans, pumps, trailers and other special purpose vehicles.

  • Allocation and scheduling of municipal vehicles for various departmental functions – for example road-maintenance, sanitation drives, infrastructure works, disaster response, and special civic events.

  • Monitoring vehicle usage, driver assignment, fuel consumption, spare-parts inventory, and ensuring that all vehicles are registered, insured and compliant with the statutory norms.

  • Coordination with traffic/transport authorities and other departments to ensure municipal vehicles operate safely, timely and in alignment with city traffic/parking rules.

  • Managing transport logistics for municipal works – mobilising vehicles to service sites, arranging transport for rapid response tasks (such as drainage clearing after heavy rain, flood-relief, etc.), and drawing up contingency plans for mobility needs.

Vision

To maintain a well-equipped, reliable and responsive transportation system for Dibrugarh’s municipal services — one where fleets are maintained to high standards, vehicles are deployed optimally and logistics-support enables timely delivery of civic services across all wards.

Our Commitment

  • To ensure operational readiness of the fleet: that vehicles are serviced on schedule, drivers trained and logistics managed so that there are no avoidable delays in service delivery.

  • To adopt efficient fleet-management practices: tracking fuel usage, reducing downtime, optimising deployment so resources are used smartly and costs are controlled.

  • To guarantee safety and compliance: all vehicles will conform to registration, insurance, fitness norms, and be operated by competent drivers under safe working conditions.

  • To support municipal departments seamlessly: whether it is sanitation, engineering, event-management or emergency services—the transport department will be a reliable backbone for mobility and logistics.
